Message from the Director
Thank you for visiting the UCI MIND website. We hope you find this site useful and that you will visit us often, as we strive to keep our content current and cutting edge.
UCI MIND is Orange County’s only state and federally funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC). Founded by Dr. Carl Cotman in 1995, UCI MIND is funded through a grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and has a rich tradition of basic and clinical research in the fields of brain aging and cognitive disorders. Our mission is to discover means to improve the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. As you can see on this website, we also commit substantial effort to community outreach and education, with the goals of keeping the community abreast of our progress, sharing learnings that can help community members reduce their risk for dementia, and increasing awareness of the need for research volunteers to accelerate progress toward improved medical care.
UCI MIND is an Organized Research Unit, bringing together multi-disciplinary investigators with the goal of synergistic collaboration. Our faculty have primary appointments in Academic Units including Biological Sciences, Information and Computer Sciences, Engineering, Nursing Sciences, Education, Social Sciences, and Medicine. This talented group of faculty, combined with an incredibly dedicated staff, have devoted their lives to making a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. We hope you will join us in this fight.
Sincerely,
Joshua D. Grill, PhD
Director, UCI MIND
