The University of California Irvine Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) is Orange County's only state and federally funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. UCI MIND has been a funded member of the national network of centers of excellence in AD research since its initial launch in 1984.
A Gift of Hope:
Advancing Research for Future Generations.
UC Irvine is entering a new era in Alzheimer’s research and care with nearly $80 million in philanthropic gifts, led by a $50 million contribution from the Quilter family. Their transformational gift, joined by support from other community leaders, launches the creation of a world-class research and clinical facility for UCI MIND. The new facility will unite researchers, clinicians and the community in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias—an illness that affects over 7 million Americans. Designed to accelerate breakthroughs and expand access to care, the facility will feature state-of-the-art laboratories, patient clinics and outreach spaces dedicated to advancing science and supporting families.
This milestone builds on UCI MIND’s four decades of leadership as Orange County’s only state- and federally-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and one of just 35 centers nationwide. With expertise spanning 25 departments, UCI MIND’s collaborative approach has led to pioneering studies in stem cell research, prevention and special populations. The institute’s commitment to community engagement—through education, outreach and the Consent-to-Contact Registry—ensures that science and compassion move forward together.
“UC Irvine has always been part of who we are. Our family
believes deeply in building community and supporting
the people and places that make a difference. UCI MIND
represents hope—not just for scientific breakthroughs, but for
the families and caregivers who face Alzheimer’s every day.”
– Ann Quilter
“Inspired by Ann’s commitment and made possible through the
extraordinary generosity of the Quilter family, Ann Hutchinson
Quilter Hall will be a hub for discovery and hope. Here, new
treatments will be tested and the path toward dementia
prevention will be blazed.”
– Joshua Grill, director of UCI MIND
