On October 4, at UCI’s Brilliant Future campaign close event, Chancellor Howard Gillman announced that UCI MIND Leadership Council members Ann and Charlie Quilter and their family members Matt, Patty, Chris, and Patrick, have made a historic $50 million gift to support UCI MIND.

This transformative contribution is the largest ever for UCI MIND and ranks among the most significant ever received by the campus, arriving at a critical moment in time. Older adults are the fastest growing segment of the population and the prevalence of dementia continues to increase rapidly. With only a few approved treatments and no proven means to prevent dementia, the work of UCI MIND has never been more important.

The Quilter family’s extraordinary gift builds upon the foundation of support that our community has provided over the years. Among other initiatives, the gift is anticipated to:

  • Accelerate clinical research including clinical trials of promising new treatments
  • Attract leading researchers to UCI
  • Provide patients and families with access to cutting-edge care
  • Train the next generation of clinicians and scientists
  • Serve as a beacon of hope for our entire community and amplify UCI MIND’s mission

The entire UCI MIND team of investigators, now including 75 faculty from 29 different departments on campus and more than 100 other investigators working in laboratories and research clinics, express our heartfelt gratitude to the Quilter family, as well as other local families that support our work.  This invaluable support brings us closer to our shared vision of conquering Alzheimer’s disease and other causes of dementia.
